Resources to integrate literacy into your family rhythm:
- Fry’s Sight Words: If you aren’t sure where to start with learning new words, use these lists to reinforce fluency. Make it a game to see how many they can read in one minute. Appropriate for beginning and striving readers.
- Reading Rockets: This website offers ideas for helping struggling readers, books by theme, and a buffet of other encouraging information for parents. In fact, they have an entire page devoted to just serving parents.
- PBS Series “Launching Young Readers“ This PBS series is intended to educate anyone who is interested in children learn to read. Educate yourself on the process, and you can better serve your students.
- Google “Library Near Me” This search will not only give you a map to the nearby libraries, but also the library website. Typically, you can use the library website to reserve books and sign up for literacy based programs.
- Read Write Think – Parent and After-school Resources: The major benefit of this website is that it is divided by age range, and spans from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Click on the age, and you will find activities, games, tools, etc.
- Adlit.org – This site is meant to provide adolescent literacy resources for parents and teachers. It provides ideas as well as research to help inform your decisions.
